The honest answer to the question every traveler asks before they book: why here, over everywhere else in Leavenworth?
Not marketing language. Specific, verifiable, physical differences between staying here and staying elsewhere in Leavenworth.
Pension Anna has 16 rooms. Landhaus Erika has five suites. That's intentional. More like a European Gasthaus (guesthouse) than a standard American hotel. At this size, you're not a room number. No long carpeted hallways, no elevator banks, no lobby gift shop. You check in personally at the desk and someone walks you to your room.
Personal Service
926 Commercial Street puts you right in the middle of it all. Front Street shops, restaurants, the Festhalle, the riverfront, the Christmas lighting, all within a short walk. You park once when you arrive and don't move your car until you leave. One block back from Highway 2. Close enough to walk everywhere, quiet enough to sleep with the window open.
Prime Location
Not continental. Not a muffin and watered-down orange juice. Brötchen and German breads from a local Bavarian bakery, meats from a German butcher in Wisconsin, eggs boiled to your liking, fruit, organic preserves, yogurt, muesli, and coffee roasted locally to our own blend. Included with every room, every stay. See what's on the table.
Included Every Stay
The furniture in your room has a history. Bauernmöbel (traditional Alpine farmer's furniture from Bavaria and Tirol) fills the rooms at Pension Anna, brought directly from the regions where it was made. The Herzog Suite's fireplace features hand-painted Kachelofen (traditional tiled stove) details. The more modern Landhaus Erika suites hold cultural and antique accents, including a genuine hand-painted Truhe (chest) from the valleys of Tirol, the oldest dating to 1742. Read the full story.
Zero Competition Niche
Landhaus Erika, our sister property next door (adults 21+ only), offers five suites finished to the standard of a high-end boutique hotel, each with its own distinct character and décor. Every stay includes access to an infrared sauna and steam room, shared only with the other four suites in the building. Some suites add hydrotherapy soaking tubs and gas fireplaces. See the suites.
Adults 21+ Only
The Alte Kapelle is a genuine 1910 Catholic church relocated to our property in 1992. Two rooms, the Alte Kapelle Suite and the Pfaffenwinkl Room, exist within its original walls, under its original vaulted ceiling. Quite possibly the only hotel anywhere where you can sleep inside a historic church. See the Alte Kapelle Suite.
Unique in Washington
"You deserve more than 5 stars! We lived in Germany for 5 years and I miss it every day. You give us such a German-type experience. True Gemütlichkeit — a feeling of coziness, warmth, belonging, and good cheer. Just absolutely first class!"
"The hotel cleanliness, authentic decor and delicious German breakfast made it all special. Having lived in Germany for six years, it brought back fond memories. We especially appreciate Donna for her warm hospitality. Would definitely stay again."
"From the time we checked in until we checked out we felt welcomed as if we were family. The Church Suite is incredible. The staff truly go out of their way to enhance your visit. We have already booked our rooms for next year!"
We're not trying to be everything to everyone. Here's who typically leaves raving about us.
If the difference between a real antique and a reproduction matters to you, and you notice things like the authentic Stube (Bavarian parlor) corner nooks in select rooms, you will appreciate what we've built here.
If you believe mornings deserve a proper table, unhurried coffee, and food made with care, our Bavarian breakfast is what you've been looking for.
Leavenworth does Bavarian theming well. We do Bavarian culture. European-born owners. Genuine antiques. Real tradition. The Gemütlichkeit (warmth, coziness, and belonging) isn't staged — it's built into the property, not applied to it.
Landhaus Erika (adults 21+ only) has a sauna, steam room, and fireplace suites designed for couples who want genuine Alpine quiet and luxury.
You notice the chest in the corner and want to know where it came from. You ask about the church. You linger over breakfast instead of rushing out. If that's you, this hotel was built for you.
If you've done the standard options and want something that feels genuinely different, this is it. Most guests who find us become regulars.
We're a boutique property run by people who care deeply. We don't have a full-service restaurant, a concierge desk, or a resort pool. Our breakfast is the only food service on-site.
If you need a pet-friendly property, we are unable to accommodate pets. If you're looking for the least expensive bed in Leavenworth, we are not that. What we are is the most carefully run, most genuinely Bavarian, most highly rated hotel in the valley. For the guest that matters to, there is no comparable alternative.
